Memorial Day...time to reflect

Memorial Day is a day to reflect. On those who have come before us and done so much to ensure our freedom.

There are men and women we really have no idea who they are, but this is what they chose to do. They chose to protect us.

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day 2021 will occur on Monday, May 31.

Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season.

Pack a picnic, plan an outing. We have waited for the beginning of summer all year...

Join friends for a picnic outside...

Or just have a quiet hour outside by yourself.

Go to a flea market, look at things from another time. Mingle with people.

Embrace how these things survived, where they came from, who was part of their story. Embrace yourself for coming so far.

Indulge a little...

Take the time to remember...and to celebrate you and where we are now. And how we got here...

Have a great Memorial Day and enjoy the beginning of summer.

Cheers,

Jacqueline Gillam Fairchild
