My most requested apple pie:
Crust:
4 cups flour
2 teaspoons salt
3 teaspoons sugar
1 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup milk
Mix all and pat into a 10 inch pie plate that has been sprayed with vegetable spray. Can add decorative trim on edge of pie plate. Refrigerate until ready.
Filling:
6 apples, peeled, cored and sliced
½ cup craisins
1 cup sugar
4 teaspoons cinnamon
½ cup butter
¾ cup amaretto
½ teaspoon almond extract
½ cup condensed milk
Sauté the apples in the butter in a large skillet until soft. Add cinnamon and sugar. Remove apples, leaving as much of the butter sugar syrup as you can. Add amaretto and condensed milk. Cook until thick. (several minutes). Add apples back to this and put all in your prepared pie crust.
Topping: Can double for extra crunch
¾ cup pecans
½ cup sugar
3 tablespoons brown sugar
½ cup flour
1/3 cup butter
Mix all with a fork and sprinkle over pie filling.
Bake 350 for 60 minutes. In the Aga use the lower floor of the baking oven and bake for 60 minutes. If topping is not crunchy looking, give it a few more minutes.
